What the CCDV-F credential certifies
What is the Claude Certified Developer – Foundations certification?
It is one of four official Anthropic Claude certifications. Anthropic’s exam guide states that it validates that an individual can build, integrate, and ship production-grade applications, agents, and workflows using Anthropic’s Claude platform at a foundational level — translating technical requirements into working systems through API integration, agent and tool construction, prompt and context engineering, evaluation, security, and model selection.

It is intended for technical professionals who build, integrate and ship production-grade AI solutions using LLMs — primarily AI and machine learning engineers, technical leads, and senior software engineers operating at the intersection of business requirements and technical implementation.
Anthropic states the credential “signals to employers, clients, and teams that the holder can independently own or significantly contribute to building, integrating, and shipping Claude-powered systems.”

Anthropic is unusually direct about this. The certification is not intended for non-technical or casual users of Claude-based applications, or individuals without hands-on software development experience. It also explicitly excludes “roles limited to prompt writing or other isolated tasks without broader application development responsibility.”

Format, blueprint, and what it costs
What are the exam format, question count, and passing score?
The CCDV-F exam has 53 items — multiple-choice and multiple-response, where each item states how many responses to select — with a 120-minute time limit and a passing score of 720 on a scale of 100–1,000. Results are reported as pass/fail with your scaled score, plus percent-correct by domain. Scoring is criterion-referenced: you are measured against a fixed standard, not against other candidates.

The exam fee is US $125, and the fee shown at checkout reflects any discount that applies to your partner tier. The credential is valid for 12 months from the date it is awarded. It is delivered by Pearson VUE, either online-proctored or at a test center, and you may cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before your appointment — changes inside 24 hours forfeit the fee.

The blueprint defines 8 weighted content domains. Weights are the approximate proportion of scored items drawn from each domain, set by job task analysis:

Two weights are worth pausing on. Applications and Integration is 33.1% — a third of the entire exam — while Claude Code is only 3.1% and Eval, Testing and Debugging only 2.6%. This is a wiring-things-together credential. If you are hiring specifically for Claude Code fluency, the Architect – Foundations exam weights it at 20%, more than six times heavier.

There are no mandatory prerequisites and no required courses. Anthropic states plainly that the experience below is recommended, not required, and that the credential is awarded on exam performance alone.
- One to five years of experience in software engineering
- At least six months of hands-on experience with Claude or comparable LLM-based systems
- Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript
- Fluency with REST APIs and CLI tools
- Working understanding of LLM fundamentals, agents, context management, and MCP
How do you prepare for it?
Anthropic is explicit that there is no single required course, and that it does not guarantee any particular resource ensures a passing result. Its own advice is to work the blueprint: self-assess against each domain objective, review the official documentation for the features named in the blueprint, and above all build real things with them. What does this credential not guarantee?
- It is a knowledge exam, not an audit of delivered work. Nobody inspected a system this person built.
- It expires after 12 months. A badge with no date attached tells you very little — ask when it was awarded.
- There are no prerequisites, so it certifies exam performance, not years served.
- It says nothing about domain knowledge in your industry, or about whether someone is good to work with.
- It is an individual credential and is distinct from the Claude Partner Network, which is a programme for firms.
